HMI for incubators
Chipsee, manufacturer of industrial panel PCs, published a case study about how VIDAL & ASTUDILLO delivers the Human Machine Interface of its poultry incubator solutions over their hardware.
Our HMI
One of the key components in our poultry incubator solutions is the Human Machine Interface used by the operators to interact not only with the machines, but also with the increasing number of devices and software platforms on the field.
The challenge
While there is a vast number of major HMI vendors, their products are normally tied to their own software ecosystem to develop and maintain the interfaces. Most of them become obsolete even when the hardware is still functional, because their functions lack support for new requirements. In other cases, managing diverse platforms, versions and protocols can be cumbersome, specially when there is more than one vendor involved in a single solution for a particular client.
We decided to develop our own software infrastructure to achieve our customers’ diverse and always changing requirements:
-
Rich interfaces, easy to adapt for the final users.
-
Based on open and reliable standards to expand over existing infrastructure.
-
A controlled and secure environment to deliver updates.
The hardware
Chipsee has the right hardware to support our solutions:
-
Their multiple offering of ARM/AMD/Intel platforms is well supported by the mainstream Linux Kernel.
-
Their build quality and attention to detail provide confidence on the reliability of the complete solution.
-
They provide extensive documentation about their products.
-
Their procurement is fast and cost effective.
The result
Running our own software infrastructure over panels like the Chipsee PPC-CM4-101, our customers get feature-rich, reliable and adaptable interfaces that evolve with their requirements instead of becoming obsolete with a vendor’s ecosystem.
